Ardent Software is a software company that had a suite of products built around their nested relational
database. Ardent products were sold and used internationally as well as deployed
with third party VAR products. Ardent needed to highlight its web application tool (RedBack) as well as provide
real-time support to its many existing users.
Ardent was purchased by Informix Software in 2000 who was in turn purchased by IBM in 2001.
2Paw Software developed TechLink, the Ardent Software worldwide support application used by
Ardent customers and support staff. Users can create new support cases, view existing
case details, search the Ardent knowledge database, or download software patches and upgrades.
In addition to customer support, Techlink offered Ardent management the ability to manage
technical support daily activity. The Director of Services Worldwide used custom management screens
to analyze site usage and statistics. Department managers used real-time reports to track case
management by support analysts.
TechLink had to interface with existing customer support information held in a UniData
database with a System Builder application on top. The application server was IBM AIX machine running
Unix. The web server was a Sun Solaris machine running Netscape Enterprise Server.
